Custom Luggage Tags

custom-luggage-tagsCustom made luggage tags come in wide range of materials, themes and colors. The materials that are most commonly used are: leather, acrylic, plastic, metal, and polyester.

Traditionally, the most popular for making luggage tags was leather or faux leather. However, the newer materials are catching up because they are cheaper, offer more variations in color and design, and the use of luggage tags has expanded to far beyond the travel niche.

Some of the newer uses to which tags are put is for keeping track of kid’s property-especially bags and other portables that could easily be misplaced or swapped in school or during club activities; as gift favors during occasions such as weddings, birthdays and anniversaries; on nature hikes, trails and camps where similar looking luggage is stored together; and by groups such as sportsmen or bands who travel a lot together and may have similar looking luggage.

Using leather for tags may not be the best choice in such instances because of rough and constant handling, or exposure that would lead to rapid wearing out.

Plastic Luggage Tags

For this reason, plastic tags are rapidly gaining popularity. Plastic custom made luggage tags are made of the same material as ATM cards, only thicker. These cards are meant to endure constant handling, rough treatment, and exposure to both water and temperature change. They are generally cheaper than leather or metal tags as they retail at $2-$10 as compared to the latter which retail from $15-$200.

Customized plastic tags are especially popular with the younger generation as not only are they durable (even bite-proof), but they also allow for more detailed theme creation. Children can have their favorite cartoon, sport, subject or action figure emblazoned on their name tags.

Customized plastic tags are also popular with adults who want a specific theme either for branding purposes or to commemorate an occasion. It is easier to create your business brand or a ‘plaque’ for your 30th anniversary to greater detail on a plastic tag than on either metal or leather.

Metal Luggage Tags

Customized metal tags while being very classy, are also the most expensive and this limits their use. While having a gold plate engraved with your information on your luggage is alluring, it will leave a sizeable dent in your wallet. A gold coated luggage tag can cost anywhere from $200 upwards.

Laminated Cardboard Luggage Tags

Laminated cardboard paper tags are rapidly losing popularity because while they may be affordable, they are not as durable as leather, plastic or metal. Most people who specialize in making custom luggage tags do not use this medium at all.

Other Materials

Other materials such as acrylic and polyester are used very limitedly, and will probably be done only on demand. They are as affordable as plastic tags, and you can get one for as low as $5.
